Weekly Update

Spring 2, Week 4

Weekly Update

We’ve been straight back into it after assessment week as the children have built on the excellent progress they have made so far in Year 4. Here is a look at what the children have been learning this week:

Maths
In maths, we have continued our fractions unit focusing on placing mixed numbers on a number line and comparing and ordering mixed numbers.

English
Children have published their persuasive letters this week and we have been really pleased with the results. We have now started our next writing unit based on non-chronological reports.

Reading
Jim has made a big decision in ‘Street Child’ and escaped from Grimy Nick. We’ve been working on our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills over the week linked to the most recent chapters.

Science

Children completed their end of unit assessment in our Electricity unit and demonstrated their learning over the past half term.

Geography

This week, we looked at the measures China is taking to improve the level of pollution in the country. Children were surprised to learn that water at hotels can be rationed.

DT

This week, it was time to put our plans into place for our salad bowls. The designs looked great and so did the final product.

Music

Children created characters in music this week as they took the first step in creating their own lyrics for a ballad.

PE

In PE this week, children worked on defending in basketball, understanding how to force the offensive player away from the basket.

Special mentions this week went to Reuben J and Persephone R in 4H, along with Naomi K and Harry M in 4P for their overall effort and attitude to learning this week. Always children this time round were awarded to Kasey E and Violet R in 4H, who joined Astro A and Blossom S in 4P. A big well done to everyone!

Thank you all for your continued support.
