End of Summer 1 Week 1 Messages and Updates

What a great start the children made to the summer term this week. There were lots of positives to celebrate in our first week back: we had another great set of spelling results; we enjoyed a special visit from PC Paul (our local PCSO); we started new units of work which the children really enjoyed.
P.E. Kit - a quick reminder please that all children need P.E. kit in school every day of the week. The kit should consist of black shorts, a white t-shirt and trainers. Whilst the weather is still cool, outdoor kit can be jogging bottoms and a suitable jumper to keep the children warm. All earrings need to be removed so if your child can't do this independently, please remove them prior to the school day.
Looking ahead, we have another fantastic week planned:
In English next week, we will be focussing on learning all about biographies before learning all about Kenton Cool and preparing to write about him - feel free to do some research at home about this incredibly interesting man!
In maths, we will be continuing to learn all about angles and how we can use known facts to calculate the size of angles on a straight line, around a point and in 2D shapes.
In guided reading, we will be focussing on answering questions around our new class novel, Floodlands, which the children really enjoyed last week.
In science, we will continue our new unit of work by looking at the lifecycles of mammals.
In P.S.H.E., we will look at the positives and negatives associated with online communities – linking this back to our work with PC Paul.
In P.E., we will continue developing our skills in both cricket and athletics.
In computing, we will learn more about programming by using our microbits – this week we will be focussing on how to use the light sensor.
In history, we will start a brand-new topic of learning all about the Shang Dynasty by looking first at where and when the Shang Dynasty existed.
In Spanish, we will continue our new unit of work - clothing.
In art, we will start to look at how to create different textures when painting.
