End of Summer 1 Week 3 Messages and Updates

What a great week we have had in year 5 this week. There were plenty more highlights and we topped off a great week with special mentions for Miller, Kurtis, Eli and Dakota.

In English this week, we have been using all our taught features to write a detailed biography about a man called Kenton Cool. Ask the children to tell you some of the interesting sentences they have written about him - not just the content, but also the skills they have used in order to write different sentence types.

In maths this week, we concluded our unit on angles and got stuck into learning about co-ordinates. We learnt to read and plot points accurately before we move on to translating and reflection points and shapes next week.

In guided reading this week, we have enjoyed getting further into our novel 'Floodlands'. We are developing our vocabulary, improving our speed and accuracy when retrieving information from the text and developing the detail in our answers to inference questions as we build towards our final set of assessments later this term.

In science this week, we compared the life cycles of amphibians and insects, looking at the similarities and differences between them.

In PSHE this week, we looked at keeping ourselves safe online by making sure we never share personal information as well as choosing which online groups we would feel comfortable being part of.

In computing this week, we have really enjoyed using the microbits again - this time we have learnt how to use count-controlled loops in order to create our very own repeating dance routines.

In P.E. this week, we enjoyed our athletics lesson with Mrs Stringer and Mrs Bourke.

In history this week, we were investigating what was found in the tomb of Fu Hao and what the artefacts could tell us about her life.

In languages this week, we continued our unit of work on clothing - the children impressed Mrs Stringer with their efforts.

In art this week, we worked on using different techniques when using watercolours - another great lesson which we really enjoyed.

As we move more towards the warmer weather, please remember to ensure that your child has a water bottle each day. On the sunnier days, sun cream and hats are also a really good idea.
