End of Summer 2 Week 2 – Messages and Updates

We've had another great week in year 5 this week, enjoying visits from a theatre company who focussed on anti-bullying and the oral hygiene team which was great fun. We also had a special online lesson featuring Steve Backshall which was exciting.

Congratulations to our winners of special mentions awards this week: Kray, Scarlett, Freddie and Ruby.

In English this week, we have completed our setting descriptions - the children have worked really hard to include a range of appropriate features in their work and should be very proud of their efforts.

In maths this week, we have enjoyed completing our negative numbers unit of work before checking our understanding with our end of unit test - the results were the best we've ever had!

In guided reading this week, we have enjoyed text marking to help show where our answers come from in the text and refining the detail we use when answering questions.

In geography this week, we enjoyed thinking about why the population of places changes and relating this to the population of Rotherham. We also considered the different facilities we would need should the population of areas keep increasing.

In D+T this week, we considered how we could programme the micro:bits so that we make a night light which turns on automatically as it gets dark and uses a countdown timer to switch off a number of minutes after a button is pressed.

In P.E., we enjoyed our rounders lesson.

In music, we learnt about the difference between character and action songs, listening to examples of each.

Next week, we have our final assessment week of the year which we are looking forward to as the children will be able to show how much they have progressed since starting with us back in September.

On Monday, we will complete our SPaG and spelling assessments.

On Tuesday, we will complete our reading assessments.

On Wednesday, we will complete maths paper 1 and 2

On Thursday, we have an author visit - we are looking forward to welcoming back Peter J. Murray who has written the Mokee Joe series of books. There will be chance for the children to purchase his books and get them signed on Friday.

On Friday, we are very excited to be running a Spanish day which includes a range of different activities as well as a Spanish menu at lunchtime!
