End of Spring 1 Week 6 Messages and Updates

What a lovely finish to the half-term that was! We celebrated our special mentions as usual - well done to Lola and Emily from 5B and Allan and Macey from 5M - and then we presented our very first star of the half-term awards. A massive congratulations to the winners this time round, Freya in 5M and Roman in 5B, you have both been shining stars in the classroom for a long time now and you should be incredibly proud.

This week has seen us finish our current projects in quite a few subjects and the knowledge the children have retained has been excellent to see.

Next half-term, we start new projects in our foundation subjects so if anyone wants to get a head start please start finding out facts or practising skills in anticipation of what will be another great period in year 5.

In English, we will start planning our own discursive pieces so get practising using contrasting conjunctions, cause and effect conjunctions and semi-colons to join linked sentences.

In maths, we will be working with fractions, decimals and percentages.

In guided reading, we will continue to work on accurately answering questions about our thoroughly entertaining class novel 'How to Train Your Dragon'.

In science, we will start a new unit of work on animals and humans.

In design technology, we will start a new unit of work on food technology focussing on flatbreads so feel free to make some at home and take pictures of your fantastic creations which you can share with us via classdojo!

In R.E., we will be starting a new enquiry on Christianity which looks at how important it is to Christians to believe that God sacrificed his only son.

In P.S.H.E., we will be starting a new unit of work around being healthy which starts with looking at the effects of smoking.

In geography, we will be looking at the make-up of the British Isles and being able to locate these on a map.

Please remember that the first Monday back after half-term is an INSET day so we look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 24th February.
