Children

Autumn Term - Week 14

⭐ Year 6 Weekly Learning Summary ⭐

What an exciting and creative week it has been in Year 6! From imaginative writing to Christmas celebrations, the children have truly shone. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

📚 English / Guided Reading – Flashback Writing (WW2: The Blitz)

This week, we explored how authors use flashbacks to deepen emotion and build tension.
The children began planning their own flashback narratives set during the Blitz, using powerful vocabulary and enhanced descriptive techniques.

We focused on up-levelling sentences, weaving in atmosphere, emotion, and vivid sensory details.

In Guided Reading, we continued to develop inference and deduction skills through rich discussion and text analysis.

➗ Maths – Fractions

We wrapped up our fractions unit with some challenging problem-solving activities.
Pupils applied their knowledge of comparing, ordering and calculating with fractions to multi-step reasoning problems.

Fantastic resilience was shown as everyone pushed themselves to explain their thinking clearly.

🎭 Christmas Performance – Rosehill’s Christmas Carol

The theatre magic is coming to life!
This week we focused on staging, lighting cues and moving confidently in character.

The children’s enthusiasm and professionalism have been outstanding—our performance is really starting to shine!

🎄 Christmas Fair Preparations

We have been busy spreading festive cheer across the school:
Children created beautiful, eye-catching decorations for the Christmas fair.

A huge well done to the pupils who helped run stalls such as Biscuit Decorating and Splat the Elf—their teamwork and leadership were brilliant.

✨ A Special Thank You
