Weekly Update

Summer 1, Week 3

It’s been a very sunny week here at Rosehill and lots of learning has taken place throughout the week. Read on to find out what’s been happening in Year 4.

Maths:
We have worked really hard this week on a tricky area of maths: adding and subtracting with mixed numbers. The children have been practising and it’s great to see lots completing homework on this area also.

English:
In English, we have written the first three sections of our non-chronological report on China using the standard English taught in SPaG at the start of the week.

Reading:
We have moved into the world of non-fiction using our retrieval and inference skills looking at an extract from ‘British History’ based around ‘World War I’.

Science:

We started our new science unit on ‘Living Things and Their Habitats’ looking at life processes and beginning to understand grouping animals according to their characteristics.

PE:
In our first cricket lesson, we have been working on our underarm and overarm throwing and fielding technique. In swimming, children were placed into their groups and had their first lesson at the swimming baths.

History:
The children have investigated trenches and trench warfare as part of our World War I topic.

Music:

It was final performance time from our ‘Mamma Mia’ unit – the children did really well using their voices in group performance skills.

RE:
In RE, the children explored the moral codes used by religious people to guide their lives investigating what selfless acts they have done and could do to help this weekend.

DT:

In our final lesson of this project, our nightlights were painted, tested and evaluated.

Special Mentions:
A huge well done to Edith and Ella (4H), along with Isla and Joshua (4P) for their special mentions this week. Congratulations to Lola A and Dakota (4H) along with Freya and Olivia (4P) who were chosen as ‘Always children’ this week. Well done everyone! 🎉
