Weekly Update

Summer 2 Week 4

Weekly Update

As we approach the end of Year 4 and begin preparations for the children’s transition into their new classes, it has been another busy and exciting week. Today, the children found out which class they will be moving into next year. A lot of thought has gone into these decisions, including friendship groups, and we are confident that every child will thrive and flourish in their new classes.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Maths
The children have completed their end of unit assessments on decimals and performed brilliantly. We have now begun a new unit on money, where they have practised writing amounts using decimals and converting between pounds and pence with growing confidence.

English
In English, we have been generating ideas for a newspaper report based on the harsh and challenging lives of soldiers in the trenches. Pupils have planned their reports carefully, including key features such as headlines, eyewitness quotes and time adverbials.

Reading
This week’s reading sessions have focused on our new text, Pony in the Dark. The children have made fantastic progress in their retrieval and inference skills, applying these to discussions and written responses.

PE
In PE, the children continued with their swimming lessons. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow and techniques improve with each session.

Geography
We explored how fossil fuel mining affects the Earth and its inhabitants. The children particularly enjoyed a hands-on activity using cookies and cocktail sticks to model surface mining. This provided a fun and visual way to understand the environmental impact.

Science
Continuing our unit on Living Things, we investigated how human activity affects animal habitats. The children engaged thoughtfully with the topic and shared insightful ideas.

Art
In Art, we have been inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keeffe. The children have now begun their final pieces, applying the techniques they have practiced to reflect her unique artistic style.

Special Mentions

Congratulations to this week’s special mentions: Daisy and Lily (4H), and Charlotte and Macey (4P). A big well done to all of you!

Thank you for your continued support.
