AU1 WK5
It’s hard to believe we’re already at the end of Week 5! The children have been working incredibly hard and making great progress. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Maths
This week in maths, we focused on comparing and ordering numbers up to 10,000. Later in the week, we explored reading Roman numerals to 100. The children also tackled arithmetic problems involving multiplying a two-digit number by a one-digit number and practised short division.
English
In English, the children have been busy writing character descriptions based on The Iron Man. They also proofread and edited their work to improve it further. We’re excited to read the final versions!
Reading
During reading sessions, we delved into Chapter 4 of The Iron Man. The children explored new vocabulary and practised retrieving important details from the text.
History
In history, the children investigated whether the Indus Valley civilisation was truly peaceful. Acting as historians, they examined and discussed findings from excavation sites.
PE
In PE, Year 4 continued their football unit, developing attacking skills to move towards goal. They also practised and refined their skipping skills using ropes.
Science
Our science lessons focused on the water cycle. The children learnt how it works and why it is a continuous process.
Spanish
In Spanish, the children consolidated their knowledge of numbers 1–10 before moving on to reading, writing and saying numbers 11–20.
Art
In art, the children began work on their final pieces inspired by Hokusai. They produced rough sketches to plan their polystyrene tile designs before starting the full project.
Special mentions were awarded to Freddie L and Brian M in 4H, and Saffron B and Charles P in 4P for their hard work and dedication to their learning this week. Well done to all!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
