Weekly Update

Autumn 1, Week 6
Weekly Update
It’s been a busy first full week of October in Year 4. As the autumnal weather starts, the children have been busy with their learning. Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:
Maths
We have moved onto rounding this week with children rounding to the nearest 10, nearest 100 and nearest 1000. We have done lots of work with number lines and learnt rhymes to help us.
English
In English, we have published our character descriptions of The Iron Man with some excellent content on show. We have now started our second writing unit focused on writing a diary entry.
Reading
We have focused our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills on the second half of Chapter 4 of The Iron Man with excitement building as the Iron Man and people of Earth face a huge problem.
History
In history, the children explored why the Indus civilisation declined and then, ultimately, disappeared. They considered the three main theories and decided which one they agreed with.
PE
In PE, the focus was on passing skills in football, concentrating on both one and two touch passing.
Science
This week in science, we set up a new investigation to explore the effect of surface area on evaporation. We’re looking forward to seeing the results next week.
Spanish
In Spanish, the children used their knowledge of numbers to ask how old someone is and give the correct response for their age.
Art
In art, the children continued to work on their final pieces inspired by Hokusai using polystyrene tile designs to create their project.
Computing
The children loved using Chrome Music Lab to explore some of the more unique features that a website can have.
Congratulations to Poppy B and Layla-May S (4H) along with Molly L, Blossom S and Darcie F (4P) for their special mentions this week. It was time for LKS2’s always children this week so congratulations to Freddie L and Violet R (4H), and Ellie M and Oscar S (4P) for their consistent effort and dedication to their learning. A big well done to everyone!
