Weekly Update

AU2 WK1
It has been wonderful to welcome the children back after the holidays and see them settled into school, ready and eager to learn. Everyone has been working extremely hard and making fantastic progress across all subjects. Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:
Maths
In maths, we continued our work on addition and subtraction. The children have shown great focus when practising efficient subtraction strategies and have also developed their skills in estimating by using rounding.
English
In English, the children completed their plans for a diary entry based on a topic of their choice. They have learned how to use apostrophes for contraction and have successfully included them within their writing. Towards the end of the week, they began drafting the opening of their diary entries, and we can already see some excellent use of key features!
Reading
During reading sessions, we explored a new non-fiction text titled Rivers. The children discussed new vocabulary and practised retrieving key information from the text to deepen their understanding.
Geography
In geography, the children investigated the process of coastal erosion. Some pupils enjoyed role playing the different stages of the erosion process, while others explored the various preventative measures used to reduce coastal erosion.
RE
In RE, the children began their new unit exploring What is the most significant part of the Nativity story for Christians? They learned about the meaning of symbols and discovered that some symbols are universal, recognised and understood by people all over the world.
Music
In music, the children started their new unit based on the song Blackbird. They listened carefully, reflected on the meaning of the song, and began learning the first verse.
Special Mentions
A huge well done to Kasey E and Annalise M in 4H, and Astro A and Harry S in 4P for their hard work and dedication to learning this week.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
