Weekly Update

Spring 1, Week 1
Weekly Update
What a busy first week of 2026 we have had in Year 4, settling back into a more regular routine after the fun of Christmas. Here is what the children have been learning about this week:
Maths
In maths, we finished our first multiplication and division unit by exploring dividing by 0 or 1 and multiplying 3 numbers together.
English
This week, we have focused on both co-ordinating and subordinating conjunctions in our SPaG lessons before using our writing toolkits to independently write the next section of a narrative.
Reading
We have started our next fiction text in guided reading linked to our topic. ‘Street Child’ has really engaged the children and we have practised our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills based on Chapters 1 and 2.
History
We have launched our new history topic, ‘Victorian Era and the Industrial Revolution’ and looked at the similarities and differences between the lives of the rich and poor during Victorian times.
Science
This week, we’ve been investigating how volume is measured and how sound waves increase as volume increases.
DT
The children have evaluated their moving card designs to see what went well and what could be improved for next time.
Spanish
Our new Spanish topic, ‘Mi Familia’ (My Family) started with us learning how to pronounce the names for different family members.
Computing
In the first lesson of our next computing unit based around programming, we learnt some basic programming commands to help programme a screen turtle.
PE
Our first gymnastics lesson focused on children developing both individual and partner balances.
Special mentions this week went to Maddison B, Harley M and Olivia O in 4H, alongside Laney S and Eden W in 4P for their overall effort and attitude to learning during this first week back. Congratulations to all of you!
Thank you all for your continued support.
