Weekly Update – Spring 1, Week 2
It has been a busy and positive week in Year 4 as we continue to settle into the new term. The children are thoroughly enjoying our new topic on the Victorian Era and have shown great enthusiasm across all subjects.
Maths:
This week, the children explored factors and learnt how to draw factor bugs logically to support their calculations. They also developed their understanding of multiplying by 10 and 100.
English:
In English, the children began writing their narratives based on The Iron Man. They have worked hard to include the features taught in lessons and are showing growing confidence in their writing.
Reading:
We continued reading our class text, Street Child. The children remain highly engaged with the story and have performed well when answering both retrieval and inference questions.
Science:
The children completed their end-of-unit assessment for our sound topic. They demonstrated good recall of prior learning and applied their knowledge effectively. Next week, we begin our new science unit on electricity.
PE:
Gymnastics lessons continued this week, with a focus on developing individual and partner balances using a range of equipment.
History:
In History, we explored the British Empire during Queen Victoria’s reign, considering how and why it expanded and how this led to the formation of the Commonwealth today.
Spanish:
The children continued to consolidate their understanding of family-related nouns and definite articles. They also learnt how to use the possessive adjective “my” in Spanish.
Art:
We began our new art unit inspired by the artist Keith Haring. The children created artist profiles, which they will revisit and build upon throughout the unit.
Computing:
In Computing, the children used Turtle Academy to programme and create different letters, developing their coding skills.
Special Mentions:
Well done to Layla and Annalise (4H), and Tyler and Amelia (4P) for earning special mentions this week.
Always Children:
Congratulations to Blake and Nectaria (4H), and Thomas and Eden (4P) for being recognised as LKS2’s Always Children, showing consistent effort and dedication to their learning. A big well done to everyone!
Thank you for your continued support.
