Weekly Update

Spring 1, Week 5

Weekly Update

We’ve had a really busy week here at Rosehill. From National Storytelling Week to NSPCC Number Day, there has been lots of interesting learning taking place. Here is a look at what else the children have been learning about this week:

Maths
In maths, we finished our multiplication and division unit by looking at efficient multiplication before starting our new unit on measure by considering what the best unit of measurement might be for particular tasks.

English
This week, we have progressed in our unit writing a persuasive letter by comparing and contrasting two persuasive letters as well critiquing and editing a poor example of a persuasive letter.

Reading
Our novel, ‘Street Child’, has continued to grab children’s imagination as Jim desperately searches for his sisters. We’ve been working on our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills across the course of the week.

History

Our Victorian Era topic has focused on the different jobs that children had to do during the 1800s. Children focused on three particular jobs and also took part in role play for each of them.

Science
Our Electricity topic continued this week with children constructing a simple series circuit and understanding the difference between a complete and incomplete circuit.

Art

In art, the children used pastels to create flat, bright colour in the style of Keith Haring.

Spanish

Children continued with our ‘Mi Familia’ (My Family) topic by learning how to say how old they are and their family members are.

Computing

Children used ‘repeat’ coding to create loops which allowed them to draw different shapes efficiently.

PE

We were finally able to get outside for some outdoor PE this week and children enjoyed learning and developing the skill of passing behind during tag rugby.

Special mentions this week went to Kasey E and Violet R in 4H, along with Ela B and Thomas B in 4P for their overall effort and attitude to learning this week. Congratulations to you all!

Thank you all for your continued support.
