Weekly Update

Summer 1, Week 3

It’s been a sunny and busy week here in Year 4. Our new units are well underway across the curriculum so here is a look at what the children have been learning this week.

Maths
In maths, we have moved onto decimals, exploring tenths as fractions, decimals, on a place value chart and on a number line. Children have also started to divide 1-digit numbers by 10.

English
We have worked hard on researching specific topics related to China followed by planning our non-chronological report. The introduction and first section of the report have been written and we’re ready to focus on editing and writing the next section next week.

Reading
This week, our text has again linked to our history unit of World War I by focusing on the trenches. Children did particularly well with the vocabulary words this week as they were tricky. Please ask them what ‘amputation’ means!

Science

In science, children investigated the effects of different liquids on tooth enamel by looking at how egg shells had changed after days submerged in Red Bull, cola, orange juice and tea.

History

This week in history, children explored the key features of a WWI trench before identifying why the Lord Kitchener poster was so effective at recruiting soldiers to the war effort.

Art

In art, children had their first lesson using oil pastels to illustrate in the style of the artist, Georgia O’Keeffe.

Spanish

In our next lesson of the ‘Mi Casa’ unit, children learned the Spanish words for five new rooms that might be in their house.

Special mentions this week went to Ethan G and Bodhi M in 4H, along with Amelia K and Millan T in 4P for their excellent effort this week. Congratulations to you all!

Thank you all for your continued support.
