Summer 1 - Week 4

Here is your weekly round up if Week 5 of summer term 1.

Weekly Update – Summer 1, Week 4

The summer term has definitely hit the ground running and the children are being challenged and stretched ready for becoming Year 4 ready but don't worry we've got them a little longer.

Here is a round up of last week's learning and what we are moving onto:

Maths:
The children have been working on adding and subtracting fractions using a number of techniques such as bar models and part, part whole models. This week will see the children complete this unit and move onto money.

English:
The children have been looking at instruction texts and what features are needed to ensure the outcome is successful. The children have shown a good understanding that the instructions need to be clear and precise. This week will see them go onto writing their own instructions a particular topic.

Reading:
During guided reading, the children continued their new book 'Escape to Pompeii' and are now looking at the vocabulary in more depth and how the characters have changed and developed throughout. This week we will be reading more of the book and seeing where the story takes us.

PE:
In athletics, the children worked on their yoga skills and athletics. This will be the focus for the remainder of the half term.

PSHE:
Our Jigsaw topic this half term is all about relationships, how these are made and sustained and what different relationships can look like. We will be working on this until half term.

Spanish:
Spanish is back on the weekly timetable and the children continued to learn about fruits and vegetables. They are revisiting this unit each work and are starting to put the words into Spanish spoken sentences.

Art:
A firm favourite of the children is Art and this half term we are looking at the artist John Dyer and replicating his work using oil pastels. The children were taught some different techniques which they will apply to their final piece which they started this week. Next week, they will be completing these and they already look fantastic.

The warm weather is upon us now and we love getting the children out into the sunshine and enjoying the use of our beautiful grounds. With that in mind, this is a polite reminder that all children need a water bottle in school, a hat, sensible footwear and suncream if possible.

Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Brown and Mrs Pritchard
