Summer 1 - Week 5

Here is your weekly summary of week  5 of Summer 1

Weekly Update – Summer 1, Week 5

How are we already approaching the final week of this half-term? Time is flying by, but the children are working amazingly well and embracing every challenge sent their way.

Here are a few polite requests from us as teachers:

  • Please encourage your child to practise their timetables at home. We are having a big push on this at the moment. This is a skill they need to secure in order to meet age-related expectations.

  • We are moving onto money in maths, so the more opportunities the children have to be in physical contact with money and the experience of paying with real money would be amazing. The children will be asked to calculate amounts and change, so if parents/carers could challenge them on this too, it would be great.

  • The weather is being very kind to us at the moment and the children are keen to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. With this in mind, could you please send your child to school with a water bottle, sun hat, appropriate footwear and, if possible, apply sunscreen before school?

Here is a round up of last week's learning and what we are moving onto:

Maths:

The children have now completed their fractions learning and secured some new learning. The next focus in maths is money, finding total amounts and change.

English:

The children have completed their instruction texts and are now ready to publish their final pieces. We will then be spending some time looking at poetry.

Reading:

Guided reading sees the children also have a poetry focus, looking at rhyming words and interpreting what a poem means.

PE:

In athletics, the children worked on their yoga skills and athletics. This will be the focus for the remainder of the half-term.

PSHE:

Our Jigsaw topic this half-term is all about relationships, how these are made and sustained and what different relationships can look like. We will be working on this until half-term.

Spanish:

Spanish is back on the weekly timetable and the children continued to learn about fruits and vegetables. They are revisiting this unit each work and are starting to put the words into Spanish-spoken sentences.

Art:

The children have completed their final pieces and will be evaluating them next week. We definitely have some budding artists in Year 3.

A few important notices:

  • On Monday, the children will be taking part in a ‘Big Talk’ lesson. Please check your emails for more information about this.

  • Wednesday is class photo day for all children (this is the whole class photo).

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Brown and Mrs Pritchard
