Week 1 - Spring Term 1

Here is your weekly round up of the first week of the new spring term

Weekly Update

What a busy first week of 2026 we have had in Year 3, settling back into a more regular routine after the fun of Christmas. Here is what the children have been learning about this week:

Maths
In maths, we have continued working on multiplication and division with a focus on our 8 and 4 times table in particular. It is really important that the children practise these at home.

English
Miss Brown's group have started their new genre of writing which is a setting description. We have looked at several examples and identified the features we need to include in our writing. Mrs Pritchard and some of our other phonics groups, have continued working on their RWI programmes.

Reading
Miss Brown's group have started on their guided reading novel ' into the forest' and have began looking at reading skills including retrieval and inference. Mrs Pritchard's and the other phonics groups have continued consolidating their sounds and applying them to a variety of different texts.

History
We have launched our new history topic ' Ancient Egypt' where the children have explored how the Ancient Egyptian civilisation began.

Science
Y3 children completed their end of unit assessment for their previous topic and began preparing for their new project on Rocks and Soils.

Art
The children started their new Art Project where they will complete a series of lessons to achieve their end outcome of a replica 'Anubis Shrine' made out of clay.

Spanish
Our new Spanish topic, sees the children learning to read and speak the names of musical instruments.

Computing
In the first lesson of our next computing unit based around stop/start animation, the children made flick books showing how still images can appear like they are moving.

PE
Our first dance lesson focused on children developing different levels and movements.

Special mentions this week went to Theo and Christina in 3B, alongside Charley BH and Harper P (3P) for their overall effort and attitude to learning during this first week back. Congratulations to all of you!

Thank you all for your continued support.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Brown and Mrs Pritchard
